Nov 26: Venezuelan violence survivor
Linda Loaiza López was only 18 when she was kidnapped, raped and tortured in Venezuela. Throughout a David-and-Goliath-like quest for justice against her politically connected abductor, Linda persevered, becoming an activist and a human rights lawyer. Nearly 17 years later, her haunting case made it all the way to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in 2018, as one of the first to examine a State’s responsibility for torture at the hands of a private citizen.
