Quality Assurance of European Universities Alliances: Aligning Internal & External QA and Student Involvement

In October 2018 the European Commission initiated its first call for proposals to set up alliances of European Universities, following the Sorbonne speech of President Macron and the Conclusions of the European Council in the previous year. In 2018 the Flemish department of NVAO considered that these new European Universities would need a European QA solution and, therefore, prepared the Erasmus+ project proposal “Developing a European Approach for Comprehensive QA of (European) University Networks” (EUniQ).

The EUniQ project was selected and coordinated by NVAO on behalf of the Flemish Community. The project ran from 2019 to 2021 and the consortium comprised eight QA agencies, six ministries and the European stakeholders’ organizations ESU, EUA and ENQA.

Welcome to the first update from the SISSTEM-program in the academic year 23-24. The bachelor and master programs are up and running. On the research side a lot is happening too, conference presentations are accelerating, everybody is talking about publications, research collaborations are popping up, and new projects are developing in alignment with SISSTEM. We would like to share some of the positive results with you in this newsletter.

FdR Midterm Review 2023: Bachelor & Master Program

De Nederlands-Vlaamse Accreditatie Organisatie (NVAO) beoordeelt iedere zes jaren de Bachelor en Master opleiding van de Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid van de Universiteit van Aruba (hierna: FdR). De laatste beoordeling van de Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid was in 2019. De officiële accreditatie zal in 2025 opnieuw plaatsvinden. Op 6 en 7 november jl. vond de Midterm Review (MTR) plaats. Bij een MTR kijkt een panel van onafhankelijke deskundigen wat de FdR tot nu toe heeft gedaan met de aanbevelingen van de NVAO en wat nog moet gebeuren. Het panel bestond uit prof. mr. Marco Loos (Universiteit van Amsterdam), voorzitter, prof. mr. Sven Brinkhoff (Universiteit van Amsterdam), lid en dr. ir. Dirk Wongsopawiro (University of Curaçao), secretaris.

Twenty UPEI researchers present at international conference: Turning the Tide: Climate Change, Social Change and Islandness in Oranjestad, Aruba this week

From October 23rd until October 26th, the University of Aruba and the University of Prince Edward Island will be co-hosting the Second International Conference on Small Island States and Subnational Island Jurisdictions: Turning the Tide: Climate Change, Social Change and Islandness in Oranjestad, Aruba. This event builds on relationships forged between UPEI’s Institute of Island Studies and the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, and programs at University of Aruba, during the First International Conference on Small Island States and Subnational Island Jurisdictions in March 2019.
