Oct 23: Professionalisering van het methodisch handelen en het samenwerken met ouders

De workshops worden aangeboden in samenwerking tussen de universiteit van Aruba en Zuyd Hogeschool uit Nederland.  Daarbij komen als sub-thema’s aan de orde: methodisch werken, professionele ouderbetrokkenheid en oudergerichtheid in diverse sectoren, en intervisietraining m.b.t. professioneel communiceren met ouders. Bij de twee workshopdagen over professioneel werken met ouders worden deelnemers expliciet geadviseerd voor beiden in te schrijven. Deelnemers worden toegerust met generieke kennis over methodisch werken en de intervisiemethodiek en specifiek over het professioneel samenwerken met ouders.

Oct 23: Caribbean Women & Crime

This lecture will discuss a recent study on risk factors for offending among Dutch Caribbean born women that was conducted by the VU University Amsterdam and the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR). For this study 330 women born in Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba or St. Eustatius were interviewed in the Netherlands, Curacao or Aruba on life experiences and exposure to potential criminogenic factors. Interviews were conducted both in the general population and in various female prisons both local as in the Netherlands. The main results of this study will be presented with the aim to increase academic, governmental, and societal attention for the topic of pathways into crime among Dutch Caribbean women.

In his newly published book; A Sense of Belonging, ‘Multiple Narratives of English speaking Arubans: Migration, Identification and Representation’ Dr Artwell Cain indicates that when one speaks of identification one is also speaking about (self) representation.

When addressing self in terms of identification we register the other. It transpires that more or less the same thing occurs when we try to determine what representation means to us.
Are we always comparing how the other is represented to how we are represented?
