Presentation: Regulation of AI and Online Platforms. How has the EU regulated big tech, and what’s in it for Aruba?

Description

The EU has adopted acts that regulate the contractual relations between online platforms and their business users and consumers, aiming to enhance transparency and fairness. The larger the platform, the greater the protection offered by these acts to its users and competitors. Additionally, the EU regulates product safety. Similar rules apply to AI services to safeguard their users. Personal data is crucial in the business model of platforms, while the protection of these data is a fundamental right of the users—natural persons.
Aruba is not excluded from the digital economy and faces the same imbalance between platforms and their users. However, it is excluded from the EU Digital Acts. Can it nevertheless benefit from the protection offered by the EU? Or can it cherry pick the best solution? During this presentation these questions will be discussed. Come join us!
