We encourage our students to go on an international exchange. Students applying for these international opportunities must meet with and apply to the Office of International Affairs before securing academic recommendations from the University of Aruba.

Minor Kingdom Relations: Collaborative Online International Learning

As part of the international collaboration between the University of Aruba and The Hague University of Applied Sciences, this minor offers students the opportunity to explore the political, legal, and cultural relationships within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Designed for students who are passionate about global relations, governance, and cultural diversity, the program focuses on the complex dynamics between the European and Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Through a combination of online learning and intercultural dialogue, students from across the Kingdom come together to engage with these themes in a collaborative and meaningful way.

The program includes an optional short study trip to either the Netherlands, Curaçao, or Bonaire, adding a practical, real-world dimension to the academic experience. With a total workload of 15 ECTS, this minor forms part of a broader effort to strengthen educational ties and foster mutual understanding within the Kingdom.

For the Academic Year 24-25, the UA students visited Bonaire. The students had the incredible opportunity to visit the RCNA in Bonaire and engage in meaningful discussions. Our visit to Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire provided valuable insights into the island’s current status and its relationship within the Kingdom. We tackled important topics such as the immigration cap and the pursuit of equality across all islands. The Gezaghebber shared a powerful message with us: at the heart of a successful Kingdom relationship lies mutual respect only by truly seeing and valuing one another can we grow together.

Student Testimonials

Students about the Minor:

“I gained valuable knowledge about how we truly operate in the Kingdom, also how deep the complexity of our relationship with Netherlands truly is and how us as the next generation can innovate ourselves and our position within the Kingdom”

Students about the Minor:

“It opened my eyes to our position as an island within the Dutch Kingdom and also to where we do not want to be as an island. The networking opportunities and the chance to ask questions to a minister—something that is not easily done—were invaluable to me”

Students about the Minor:

“Pleading in front of the Raad van State van het Koninkrijk was by far the most awesome and rewarding experience for me.”
