Public Lecture: Aruban Architecture – Why investing in Aruban heritage preservation makes sense
Description
This upcoming lecture provides an in-depth exploration of Aruban Architecture and Heritage, tracing the evolution of the island’s unique structural identity from traditional “cunucu” houses to iconic Dutch colonial influences. Beyond a mere history lesson, the session aims to address the cultural significance of these landmarks, framing them as the physical soul of the island’s collective memory.
A primary focus of the presentation will be deconstructing the persistent social myths and misconceptions that often hinder conservation efforts. We will tackle common fallacies regarding the complexities of private vs. public ownership and the widely held belief that restoring a monument is an insurmountable financial burden.
