The Cinema Documentary “Dande di Aruba”

“Dande di Aruba” is a documentary film from Cindy Kerseborn, about the Dande Tradition in Aruba. In this documentary, the different participants argue about the development of the Dande music and the Dande tradition as one of the typical end of the year feasts celebrated by young and elderly people in Aruba. Most people would like to know what the origin is of Dande? What is the meaning of the word Dande? And is Dande only known in Aruba?

In the panel discussion the presenters will focus:
1) on processes and challenges to realize a professional documentary film and
2) what is necessary to place Dande on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity from the cultural and linguistic perspectives.

This is a start of the community involvement in the discussions about the elements of the intangible cultural heritage of Aruba with the opportunity for the public to participate in one of three Statements discussion:
1) What are the expectation with respect to the safeguarding of the Dande Tradition to be nominated?
2) What are the elements to be considered as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Aruba besides the Dande Tradition.
3) What kind of investigations and activities are needed on cultural level to protect our intangible cultural heritage? The presenters finally provide some tentative and general recommendations. The presenters hope to spark a lively debate.
