New Authority – New Opportunities

Presentation

The Aruba Fair Trade Authority (AFTA) would like to meet with you.

AFTA has been operational since the beginning of January 2024, coinciding with the enactment of Aruba’s competition law. With this new legislation in place, there are new regulations and there is a new oversight entity. AFTA aims to introduce itself to a wide audience to establish its presence and objective. During its presentation, AFTA will outline the new regulations and highlight the opportunities they bring. As the primary responsibility of AFTA is to monitor and enforce these regulations, it will also elaborate on its approach and implications for businesses operating in Aruba.

Speaker:

Martijn Snoep gained broad experience as a lawyer focusing on competition/antitrust law for a significant part of his professional career. But he also obtained diverse executive and supervisory leadership experience in organizations run by professionals in the legal, government, academic, and cultural sectors.

Martijn’s first notable executive role was serving as the Managing Partner of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek for six years, overseeing a group of approximately 700 lawyers, including 60 partners, and playing a pivotal role in creating and executing the firm’s new strategic direction.

Currently, he holds a similar position as the Chair of the Board of the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), an independent government agency in The Netherlands, responsible for enforcing competition and consumer protection laws and regulating the energy, telecom, and digital sectors. With a workforce of 650 professionals, Martijn is actively involved in executing the ACM’s new strategy and positioning it with its key stakeholders and in the Dutch society.

Since December 2023 Martijn is also a board member of the Aruba Fair Trade Authority.
