Despite the fact that the pandemic is almost in the rear-view mirror, COVID-19 has changed the world that we live in and operate in forever. Since March 2020, the hospitality and tourism landscape has changed to reflect different expectations from our guests and our employees.
Dr. Robin DiPietro presents a summary of research and evidence of a changing landscape that applies to the world around us and some specifics on the impact that has had on Aruba. The topics covered during this lecture will be:

  • The Impact of COVID-19 on the world of hospitality and tourism
  • Changing Expectations of our Guests
  • The Changing Demographics and Expectations of Employees in hospitality and tourism
  • How we can adapt to provide a positive work environment post-covid
  • Evidence from Aruba

Speaker:

Robin DiPietro, Ph.D., MBA is a Professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at University of South Carolina and Honorary Professor at University of Aruba. She received her BS, MBA, and PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to her work at the University of South Carolina, Dr. DiPietro worked at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, at the University of Central Florida.

Dr. DiPietro has been with the University of South Carolina since 2009 and has been the Director of the International Institute for Foodservice Research and Education since arriving in 2009 and was also the Director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management from 2020-2023. During her time as a faculty member, Dr. DiPietro won the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management’s Researcher of the Year Award as well as the Global Scholar Award.
